Technology

Today’s topic for the Blog Flash is technology. Honestly, technology is something I shy away from most of the time. I’m new to much of it and stay away from the majority of it. I get mad when Facebook decides to change its layout because I’ve usually just gotten the hang of the one I have, and then I am forced to have to learn a new version. When I went back to college in 2002, I had to take an introduction to computers class. My hands visibly shook as I placed them on the keys of the computer. I remember clearly the teacher telling me that I wouldn’t break it. My high school was just starting to get computers that students had access to when I was getting out of school, and my children were introduced to computers in kindergarten! Life has definitely changed due to technology. It is something that often frightens me because of my lack of knowledge, but it is something I must learn to accept. Technology is out there for everyday use, and it is only going to increase. I guess that means I should buckle down and apply more of it to my life.

  1. I still remember the old, slow Apple computers that were so expensive back in the 80's. You were rich to own a computer then, so I pretty much lived without them. The Internet stay a mystery until college, but now I can't work without it!

    1. Yeah, we were far from rich. My dad was a fireman in a small town, but I had an uncle who worked for Texas Instruments, so my dad managed to get a "computer" through him for a decent price, but it was basically a keyboard that you connected to your television. An extremely thick book came with it with all types of codes to enter in order to use it. I never could figure any of it out, but I did figure out how to play one game on it, so that's the only thing I ever did with it. The main thing I use my computer for is to write. I enjoy facebook. I know how to google things and do research. I have a twitter account, but I still don't know how to use the # symbol. I really have to learn that. I'm very new to the blogging world, but I have found that I enjoy visiting blogs and reading what others are sharing.

  2. Hi Schledia! I think that everyone has to face a lack of knowledge with technology these days! I pretty much grew up with computers, but there is always something new, isn't there? In some ways it's nice to get away from it occasionally, though!

    1. Yes, there definitely is always something new! I like to take one weekend a year and hide myself away from everything...technology, children, the world...all of it. It helps me to refresh my mind.

  3. I've been using technology since I was in kindergarten, and I still feel the same way about changes and updates - I just get used to one tool or layout, and then they go and change everything! Also, I don't understand twitter - shhh! ;)

  4. I was the kid in third grade teaching the teacher how to use the classroom computer because we had one at home. Now I hate having to get a new phone, update my software, or learn another new technology thing because it is changing so fast that I cannot keep up. My oldest is 4 and she can navigate her way around the iPad, my Kindle, her LeapPad, my laptop (yeah I had to install a kid safe browser on it when she was 2!), and most of the options on the TV (including finding her own shows on Netflix). It is a crazy fast world and I can totally see her getting annoyed that I don't know how to do something just as I used to get annoyed at my parents for not understanding.

    1. Isn't it crazy how quickly young brains absorb everything?

  5. I still own my Apples! I make myself learn how to live without because technology is something I have always had. Our family was ahead of the game in all ways because of my dads work.

  6. Anything we are expert at today will surely be surpassed in a few years. I think even our children will begin to feel out of touch
